Provenance
Langley visited Mol, Flemish Belgium, in 1906 and this was painted in 1907 for submission to Academy, where it failed to sell. After five subsequent showings up to 2010, Langley reduced it's size by removing about a third of the left-hand side, which had been occupied by a large rough-hewn pillar/tree trunk supporting the roof. It remained on his hands for 12 years before selling. Sold Sothebys, London, 22 June 1994 Sold Sothebys, London, 15 November 2011 BCT purchased Bonhams, London, 23 January 2013.
