This work was the artist's first major success and hung in an important place at the RA Summer Exh in 1887. Stanhope Forbes rated this highly and thought he would now be more successful. This work was bought by the dealer Arthur Tooth for £ 70, who also sponsored Tayler to spend the Sumer of 1887 painting in Venice. This work predates Frank Bramley 'Hopeless Dawn'.
