Provenance
RA 1939. Painted in 1939 (the second painting of these tin miners) at a time when west Cornwall's mining industry was in decline. The painting belonged to the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro, and was forgotten and neglected, until they put it up for auction at the end of 2011. BCT purchased and restored it to its former glory. The two men have been named as Nicholas Grenfell and his friend Sidney Angove. They were also the subject of the previous painting called St Just Tin Miners painted in 1935. renfell's son and grandaughter have spoken of them as friends and colleagues and Angove's great-niece believed they were related by marriage.
